Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Research

Mayo researchers study the risk factors that contribute to a patient's developing PCOS, as well as environmental and genetic factors. They continue to investigate new diagnostic evaluations and treatments for this syndrome.

Research by Frank Gonzalez, M.D., focuses exclusively on PCOS. He has demonstrated the molecular mechanism by which inflammation promotes the development of insulin resistance and atherosclerosis in women with PCOS and in obese reproductive-age women. He is currently researching why the white blood cells involved in inflammation in women with PCOS are so sensitive to certain dietary triggers. See a list of publications by Dr. Gonzalez about polycystic ovary syndrome on PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine.
