Macular Degeneration

"Macular Degeneration" is a free 60-minute class offered in the Patient Education Center. After completing the class, patients should be able to:

  • Learn the difference between dry and wet macular degeneration and how vision loss occurs
  • Understand the roles of food and vitamin/mineral supplements to prevent disease progression
  • Properly use an Amsler grid and identify when to call a physician
  • Address how to prevent social isolation
  • Begin to develop a plan to use Mayo Clinic Low Vision Services and/or state and national services

Register by calling (507) 284-8140 or by making an appointment at the Patient Education Center reception desk. Classes are offered Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and can be scheduled to fit with your other clinic appointments.
