Keeping Your Kidneys Healthy

Keeping Your Kidneys Healthy is a 60-minute class offered in the Patient Education Center. After completing this class, you should be able to:

  • Describe basic kidney function
  • Describe the disease process leading to kidney failure
  • Recognize that lifestyle change may prevent or delay costly and time-consuming dialysis or kidney transplantation
  • Identify critical management issues (blood pressure and diabetes control, diet, exercise)
  • Recognize that anemia can result from loss of kidney function
  • Identify the link between kidney disease and risk of heart disease
  • Describe proteinuria and how to manage it and create an action plan for a healthier lifestyle
