Mayo researchers have written numerous articles and conducted studies about pancreatitis to improve understanding of the disease and, ultimately, patient care. These studies have focused on autoimmune pancreatitis, obstructive pancreatitis and surgical management techniques such as Whipple resection and pancreatectomy. Other areas of research include pancreatic duct disconnection (a complication of acute pancreatitis) and addiction related to pancreatitis. Mayo Clinic physicians have also made contributions in imaging prodecures to diagnose pancreatitis and endoscopic procedures to treat it.
