Biofeedback therapy provides information about how physiological processes in the body can be negatively affected by chronic pain. A computerized instrument is used to measure and increase a patient's awareness of mainly involuntary physiologic processes (for example, heart rate and muscle tension). Biofeedback can guide the patient in learning how to consciously increase control over these processes and maintain control during daily activities.
