- Vision correction surgery: The Department of Ophthalmology now offers patients interested in vision correction a safer and less invasive alternative to LASIK refractive surgery. Using top-of-the-line equipment, the procedure called phototherapeutic keratectomy (PRK) or surface ablation eliminates the need to make an incision in the cornea, therefore reducing the risk of corneal flap complications. The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting and offers the same high success rates associated with other refractive procedures.
