Perinatal Education classes are offered by RN Perinatal Educators and other professionals. In addition to pregnancy and labor preparation classes, there are special sessions for pre-conception care, preparing for cesarean delivery, multiple pregnancy, preparing children for a new sibling or to attend a birth, exercise in pregnancy, breastfeeding, infant passenger safety, grandparenting, obstetrical facility tours, as well as classes targeted for young moms.

Registered nurses educated in breastfeeding are available to provide breastfeeding information and assistance to help moms and newborns during the hospital stay. International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) with expertise in breastfeeding education provide instruction and assistance throughout Mayo Clinic. The Lactation Consultants along with Breastfeeding Resource Nurses offer postpartum breastfeeding classes. Families who continue receiving medical care at Mayo Clinic Rochester may also continue to receive breastfeeding support from the Lactation Consultants after returning home from the hospital. Classes and breastfeeding support are also provided for families with newborns hospitalized in one of the Special Care Nurseries (NICU or ISCN)

The Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death Support Group, facilitated by experienced members of the health care team, provides comfort and support for parents who have experienced the loss of an infant by miscarriage, stillbirth, or another perinatal complication.
