Mayo Clinic Nurse Camp
Program Details

Schedule

The 2012 Nurse Camp at Mayo Clinic in Arizona is Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13. Activities run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Lunch is provided each day. A Mayo Clinic staff member accompanies students at all times.

Activities

Each day of Nurse Camp is filled with a variety of activities. Throughout camp, Mayo Clinic doctors, allied health staff, volunteers and past Nurse Camp participants teach students about the important role that nurses play in the delivery of outstanding patient care.

In addition to shadowing registered nurses in various medical specialties to see how nurses care for patients, students:

  • Take part in hands-on operating room simulations
  • Observe how nurses work with paramedics and firefighters in the emergency department
  • Learn how to give an injection (using a mannequin)
  • Use various models to learn about the heart and skeleton
  • See demonstrations on the use of tracheostomy tubes
  • Learn about different types of suturing
  • View their heart rhythm on an echocardiogram machine
