Large white arrows show the cerebellum (controls balance and coordination) – much smaller in brain of patient with Niemann-Pick type C (NPC), at right, than in a normal brain (control). The smaller white arrows show the corpus callosum – the major fiber bundle connecting the cerebral hemispheres – smaller in NPC than control; the red arrows show the bone marrow, greatly expanded in the NPC patient because of the presence of storage cells.
