Patient Care

Frozen elephant trunk technique aids aortic dissection repair

The majority of patients treated for acute type A dissection are left with residual dissection, which is then managed medically. A potential advance addresses the residual type B dissection at the time of the acute repair.

Protocol allows some patients with pacemakers to have MRI

Under a protocol developed at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, a patient's heart rhythm is monitored in real time via electrocardiogram to allow MRI. The pacemaker is programmed to a noninhibited mode prior to scanning and reprogrammed after the scan.

Research
