What: Cancer patient rides a bike 197 miles for a cure

When: Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 (sometime between 2-4 p.m.)

Where: Mayo Clinic Hospital 5777 East Mayo Boulevard, Phoenix, AZ 85054 (56th St. and the 101)

Description: To celebrate his "first birthday" (post surgery), Ricky Rinehart of Yuma plans to ride his bicycle 197 miles from Yuma to Phoenix the weekend of Oct. 22-23 to raise funds for cancer research. Rinehart, 54, will be accompanied by a group of his family, friends and co-workers.

In October 2010, Rinehart had esophagectomy surgery to treat esophageal cancer. He hopes his ride will raise awareness about the importance of cancer research.

Arrival time: Rinehart plans to arrive at Mayo Clinic Hospital between 2 and 4 p.m. and will call contacts at Mayo Clinic an hour before he arrives.
