ROCHESTER, Minn. — Mayo Clinic now offers expanded cardiology services in Northfield, Minn. at the Mayo Clinic Heart Clinic on the Northfield Hospital campus. Daily heart care appointments are available in Northfield with Mayo Clinic cardiologists via on-site visits and telemedicine consultations, through a remote audio/video link to Rochester. Mayo Clinic cardiac nuclear imaging and echocardiograms are also available on-site.
"Through outreach programs like this relationship with Northfield Hospital & Clinics, patients are able to access Mayo Clinic care closer to home, saving on travel expense and time, while receiving high-quality care from their primary physician and Mayo Clinic staff," says R. Scott Wright, M.D., cardiologist and director of outreach for Mayo's Department of Medicine.
Mayo Clinic cardiologists have traveled to Northfield from Rochester since 2008. With the expansion of the cardiac outreach service, Mayo Clinic designated the site a heart clinic and adopted the name Mayo Clinic Heart Clinic in April 2010.
"This is a great resource for the communities we serve," says Mark Henke, president and CEO of Northfield Hospital & Clinics. "Mayo Clinic's cardiovascular disease treatment and management rank among the world's best. To have this level of expertise available locally is a huge benefit to our patients."
Patients can make an appointment directly through FamilyHealth or be referred by their primary physician. Mayo Clinic cardiologists are committed to working closely with a patient's primary provider for close coordination of care. Patients with problems such as cardiac rhythm disorders or other complications may benefit from further evaluation and management at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
The relationship between Mayo Clinic and Northfield Hospital & Clinics extends beyond cardiology outreach. Cannon Valley Clinic — a part of Mayo Health System in Faribault, provides physician services to all four Northfield FamilyHealth clinics through a physician services agreement. Also underway is a new management services agreement between Mayo Health System and Northfield Hospital for management of the Northfield FamilyHealth clinics.
Mayo Clinic offers cardiology outreach services in several communities south of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, including Cannon Falls, Faribault and Owatonna.
