Mayo Clinic to Celebrate Heritage Days

Friday, October 02, 2009

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Heritage Days is an annual week-long celebration which begins Oct. 5 and runs through Oct. 9. This year's theme is "A Leap of Faith." Throughout its history, the people of Mayo Clinic have taken many "leaps of faith" to overcome challenges, advance medical science and develop innovative approaches to serve patients.

Midday musical concerts and dance performances are planned Monday through Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at various locations on the Mayo campus. Commemorative displays featuring Mayo Clinic's significant anniversaries can be found in Mathews Grand Lobby in the Mayo Building.

During Heritage Days 2009, the original play, "A Leap of Faith," will be performed at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6 in Phillips Hall on the Mayo Clinic campus, with a repeat performance in the same location at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7. "A Leap of Faith" takes the audience back to 1883 for a lively give-and-take conversation between Mother Alfred Moes and William Worrall Mayo, M.D., forging the partnership that led to the founding of Saint Marys Hospital.

The public is welcome to participate in the week's festivities. Information is posted on the Heritage Days Web page.
