College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic invites third-party comments

ROCHESTER, Minn. — As part of the College of Medicine's reaccreditation process, Mayo Clinic is seeking third-party comments from its constituencies in preparation for a site evaluation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Public constituencies include: students, faculty/staff, the community, local government, community partnerships and affiliated institutions.

The College of Medicine will undergo a comprehensive three-day evaluation visit by a team representing the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association on the Rochester campus in January 2009 and on the Arizona and Florida campuses in February 2009. The process evaluates an entire institution and accredits it as a whole.

The public is invited to submit comments regarding the college in one of two ways:

Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of the institution or its academic programs and must be received by Dec. 1, 2008. Comments must include the name, address, and telephone number of the person providing the comments and are not confidential.

Why is Mayo Clinic seeking reaccreditation? Accreditation by the HLC assures to the public that the institution has met the agency's clearly stated requirements and criteria and that there are reasonable grounds for believing they will continue to be met.
