ROCHESTER, Minn. — Mayo Clinic's Stephen and Barbara Slaggie Family Cancer Education Center invites you to include the following educational programs, events and support groups on your community calendars. These activities are designed for patients who have cancer, their family members and friends. No advance registration is necessary, unless noted. CHEMOTHERAPY

What You Need to Know About Chemotherapy
Nurse educators provide information about chemotherapy side effects and resources for patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Date/Time: Tuesdays – 3 to 4 p.m.; Thursdays – 1 to 2 p.m.

CLINICAL RESEARCH

Let's Talk About Clinical Research
A 30-minute question-and-answer session for individuals considering clinical research participation.

Date: Tuesdays
Time: 8:30 to 9 a.m.

EXPERT LECTURES

PaLS: Participation, Learning, Support
This session will provide an overview of cancer, terminology, risk factors, treatment options and available resources.

NUTRITION

Nutrition During and After Cancer Treatment
Registered dietitians will present information on nutrition and answer questions about poor appetite, weight loss, nausea, dietary supplements and related topics.

Time: 10:15 to 11 a.m.

Questions About Nutrition
During this drop-in session, dietitians will meet with patients and family to answer questions regarding nutrition.

SUPPORT

Brain Tumor Support Group for Patients and Caregivers
An informal support group, run by patients and caregivers. Individuals are encouraged to share ideas and gather support from others dealing with the same issues. No registration needed.

Breast Cancer Support Group
Women with breast cancer meet to share their experiences and emotions.

Brighter Tomorrows

Cancer Caregivers Conversations
Friends and families caring for patients with cancer are encouraged to attend this support group.

Compassionate Friends

Multiple Myeloma Sharing Sessions

Prostate Cancer Support Group

Providing Spiritual Support
A chaplain is available to listen to patients' and caregivers' concerns, offer emotional support and assist with spiritual needs.

WELLNESS AND RELAXATION

Strengthening Healing
Breathing techniques introduces participants to a variety of unique breathing methods that can help decrease stress and anxiety and increase relaxation. Guided imagery introduces participants to the power of visualization and imagination, which can assist with relaxation, reducing pain, and increasing self-awareness and emotional well-being.

This session uses colorful beads as a means to learn about the visual impact of color on your emotions and the therapeutic effect of creating art with your hands.

Releasing Stress and Renewing Energy
This session provides participants with tools for relaxation and renewal for physical, emotional, mental or spiritual needs.

Creative Renewal: Workshops for Wellness
These interactive workshops provide participants with unique outlets for expression in a reflective, supportive environment that fosters learning. Workshop topics vary.

Creating Confidence: Cosmetic Approaches for Dealing with the Side Effects of Cancer Treatment
This session will include hair and skin care solutions for women experiencing cosmetic side effects from illness or medical treatments. Activities will include scarf tying, skin care, eye brow stenciling and wig styling.
