JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Although the new $254 million Mayo Clinic Hospital will not officially open until April 12, the general public will have its first opportunity to get a sneak preview of the new facility at a community open house event to be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 30. The new 214-bed hospital is located on the Mayo Clinic campus at 4500 San Pablo Road in Jacksonville.
The community open house is the final event of Mayo Clinic Hospital's grand opening weekend celebration March 28 – 30, which also includes a formal dedication ceremony and private benefactor and employee events. Open house attendees will have the opportunity to participate in self-guided tours of the new hospital, where they can experience its patient-focused design, learn about its leading-edge diagnostic and treatment capabilities and view its fine artwork including the centerpiece of the lobby — a colorful, one-of-a-kind, blown-glass chandelier by Dale Chihuly, a world-renowned artist famous for his contemporary glass sculptures. In addition to the tours, there will be live musical entertainment, refreshments and plenty of information available about the new hospital and its services.
The new Mayo Clinic Hospital will officially begin operations on the morning of April 12, when new patient admissions will begin and the remaining Mayo Clinic patients previously admitted to St. Luke's Hospital will be transferred to the new facility. St. Luke's will continue to operate as a community hospital by its new owners, St. Vincent's HealthCare, which is taking over the facility from Mayo Clinic.
Mayo Clinic Hospital's open house is free and open to the public. Parking is available in designated event parking lots throughout the Mayo Clinic campus. For more information call (904) 953-2373 or go to www.mayoclinic.org/jacksonville.
