JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees today elected Michigan native Shirley Weis as its vice president. Weis assumes the office of chief administrative officer for Mayo Clinic, effective today.
Weis has served in numerous leadership roles within the organization, most recently as chair of Administrative Services at Mayo Clinic's Arizona campus. As chief administrative officer, Weis will be responsible for administrative services across the Mayo system. She will work with Denis Cortese, M.D., president and CEO, to preserve and enhance Mayo Clinic's mission and position as a pre-eminent health care institution. Among her priorities will be team building, developing and continuing to attract a quality staff, and promoting innovation across the system.
"I've been privileged to serve Mayo Clinic in many roles," says Weis. "I look forward to working with Dr. Cortese and all the other Mayo leaders to help us achieve our mission and serve our patients. This is an exciting time in medicine. With rapid developments in science and technology, we have great opportunities to build on what we've accomplished and deliver the kind of health care and service only Mayo Clinic can provide."
Weis is the daughter of Charles and Harriet Bader of Howell, Mich. A graduate of Howell High School in 1971 and Michigan State University in 1975, Weis earned a master's degree in Management from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees, a 30-member group of public representatives and Mayo physicians and administrators, is responsible for Mayo Clinic's patient care, medical education and research activities at campuses in Arizona, Minnesota and Florida.
