ROCHESTER, Minn. — Harmony for Mayo provides free music concerts for patients, employees and the Rochester community. Concertgoers are invited to a variety of musical performances on Mondays from 12:10 to 1 p.m. at several locations around Mayo Clinic's campus. October's concerts are as follows:
Oct. 1: Heritage Days (no concert)
Oct. 8: Cynthia Dario-Good and Ainhoa Urkijo will perform classical piano and vocal music in Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W.
Dario-Good earned her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Washington. She resides in Rochester, where she teaches voice and piano and performs for a variety of theater productions. Urkijo, a native of Bilbao, Spain, received a degree in piano performance from the Arriaga Superior Conservatory of Music in Spain. She has performed in concert halls throughout Europe and the United States and is a faculty member at Rochester Community and Technical College.
Oct. 15: Choral Arts Ensemble will perform in Hage Atrium, subway level, Siebens Medical Education Building, 100 Second Ave. S.W.
The concert will feature an eclectic mix of music related to time and the seasons. The event will include Italian music of springtime, music of the night by Johannes Brahms, a new work by Eric Barnum, "There was a Time," and several movements from a recent work by John White. Directed by Michael Culloton, Choral Arts Ensemble is in its 27th year of inspiring audiences throughout southeastern Minnesota with exceptional choral performances.
Oct. 22: Leon Joseph Littlebird will perform Native American flute music in Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W. Littlebird is a prolific songwriter and performer whose style hints at tales of Colorado and the West. He understands and uses traditional Native American flute music for telling stories, bringing healing and celebrating special events and ceremonies. Littlebird's music has been described as romantic, stimulating and peaceful. He performs at concerts, weddings and special events.
Oct. 29: Well-known Minnesota guitarist Dean Magraw will perform in Hage Atrium, subway level, Siebens Medical Education Building, 100 Second Ave. S.W.
Magraw's 30-year career includes work as a guitarist, composer, arranger and producer. In addition to solo tours in the United States, Canada and Europe, Magraw is renowned for his collaboration with other artists, including Peter Ostroushko. He performs regularly on "Prairie Home Companion." Magraw's latest solo recording, released in 2004, is "Heavy Meadow."
Sponsored by Mayo Clinic Center for Humanities in Medicine, Harmony for Mayo is coordinated by Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester. Initiated through a generous financial gift from Mr. and Mrs. Tomas Furth of Caracas, Venezuela and New York City, the music series adds to the healing environment of Mayo Clinic.
