ROCHESTER, Minn. — Offered as part of the programming of Mayo Clinic Center for Humanities in Medicine, the Harmony for Mayo music series aims to help enhance the healing environment at Mayo Clinic. Four concerts will be held at Mayo Clinic in November on Mondays from 12:10 to 1 p.m. Each concert will be held in the Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W.
Nov. 6: Rochester Community Baptist Church Choir
Rochester Community Baptist Church Choir will perform gospel and worship music. The group's purpose is to glorify God through the music they produce. As a gospel choir, they intend their music to encourage awe, reverence, joy and intimacy with the divine. The group is directed by Judy Cross.
Nov. 13: David Viscoli and Mary Budd Horozaniecki
Pianist David Viscoli and violinist Mary Budd Horozaniecki will give a classical music concert. Originally from Sante Fe, N.M., Viscoli serves as an associate professor of Music at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Horozaniecki gives recitals and teaches master classes internationally.
Nov. 20: Gaelic Tribe
Entertaining listeners with sounds from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, Gaelic Tribe includes Jay Millman, fiddle and tin whistle; Martha Millman, flute; Harmon Pierce, guitar and vocals; Kerry Peterson Quigley, fiddle; and Joe Peterson, bodhran. The group's performances feature traditional Irish music and original compositions. Gaelic Tribe has been playing together for eight years. Their recent CD is "West of Donegal."
Nov. 27: Honors Choirs Lyric Singers
As one of five auditioned choirs that make up Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota, Lyric Singers includes 63 young women in grades nine through 12. The group will be conducted by Shelly Winemiller and accompanied by Mary Ellen Malkasian. The concert will include "Magnificat" by Z. Randall Stroope and "Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day" arranged by John Rutter, as well as works in French and Finnish and the holiday favorite, "Ding Dong! Merrily On High." As a not-for-profit organization, Honors Choirs includes 285 students in grades three through 12. The organization is in its 13th season.
Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester selects and schedules the outstanding musicians that perform at each Harmony concert. Mr. and Mrs. Tomas Furth of Caracas, Venezuela and New York City, initiated the program through a generous financial gift to Mayo Clinic, and continue to help fund the series.
