PHOENIX — The 2005 Diversity Leadership Alliance (DLA) Conference will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Phoenix Civic Plaza from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than 2,000 professionals from around the Valley will attend to learn about Building an Inclusive Community.
Keynote speaker during the luncheon (12:15 - 1:45 p.m.) will be Yolanda King, eldest daughter of the late Martin Luther King. This event, the fourth annual one, will also include a Career Fair from 1:30 - 2 p.m., hosted by Jobing.Com. This year's Fair will focus on special outreach to the displaced citizens who came to Phoenix from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The public is invited to attend the Career Fair at no cost. Conference attendees will be entertained by jazz saxophonist and Phoenix resident Marion Meadows, who will perform and sign copies of his latest CD, "Players Club."
The DLA (www.diversityleadershipalliance.org) was founded in 2002 by several major companies in Arizona. The DLA is a non-profit organization whose membership represents diverse businesses in the Valley that promote dialogue about diversity and how it contributes to success in business.
Conference registration is $125 if paid online and $150 at the door. The registration fee includes the morning and afternoon diversity workshops, the luncheon and keynote address, networking, the concert by Marion Meadows and the Career Fair exhibits.
Mayo Clinic is a Gold sponsor of the Diversity Leadership Alliance. Victor F. Trastek, M.D., chair of Mayo Clinic's Board of Governors, is scheduled to speak on a panel of CEOs at the event and will address "teamwork" as one of the "best practices" involving diversity.
At 4:45 p.m., the Arizona Society for Human Resources Management (AZ SHRM) Workforce Diversity Awards Celebration and Presentation will take place.
