Poster Takes Top Honor for New MRI of Kidneys

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Four Mayo Clinic physicians, including Patrick T. Liu, M.D., Paradise Valley, recently presented a scientific research poster that was named "best" in its category of Body and Cardiac MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) at a national medical conference.

The poster, entitled, MRI Differentiation of Renal Cell Carcinoma from Complex Cysts Using Dynamic Enhancement, Digital Subtraction and Enhancement Threshold Measurement, earned the honor at the 13th annual meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine from May 7 - 13 in Miami Beach. The poster content describes the physicians' research into the accuracy of new methods of performing MRI of the kidneys to detect cancer.

Authors of the poster, in addition to Dr. Liu, were Clinton V. Wellnitz, M.D.; Alvin C. Silva, M.D. and Amy K. Hara, all from the Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
