ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Mayo Clinic liver transplant program in Rochester, Minn., achieved excellent, above-average adult patient survival rates, according to the recently released update of center-specific data on the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients. Results from all national transplant centers are posted at the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients Web site (opens in new window).
The Mayo Clinic Transplant Center liver program continues to see patients with an increasing progression of disease and complicated medical issues at the time of transplantation, which decreases the program's expected survival rate. However, the actual survival rate remains higher than average and is considered one of the best in the nation. The Mayo Clinic liver transplant program is one of five programs, nationwide, that achieved "statistically higher" actual survival versus expected survival for adult patients at one year. The pediatric transplant patient survival data also ranks higher than average.
"These results reflect our liver transplant team's excellence, experience and dedication to patient care," says Charles Rosen, M.D., liver transplant surgical director at Mayo Clinic.
Other transplant programs at the Mayo Clinic Transplant Center achieved excellent results as well.
The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients supports the ongoing evaluation of the scientific and clinical status of solid organ transplantation in the United States.
