What: Opportunity to listen to Stephen Shortell, Ph.D., who will deliver the 2004 Ozmun Lecture in Management, "Crossing the Quality Chasm: Evidence-based Medicine Meets Evidence-based Management," at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, sponsored by the Donald C. Ozmun and Donald B. Ozmun Family.
When: Thursday, June 10 — Reporters are invited to attend the lecture from 1-2:30 p.m., local time.
Who: Stephen Shortell, Ph.D., Dean, University of California - Berkeley School of Public Health
Where: Taylor Auditorium or Mayo Clinic Hospital, 1-212. The lecture also will be telecast live from Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Why: Stephen M. Shortell, Ph.D., is the Blue Cross of California Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Management and Professor of Organization Behavior at the School of Public Health and Haas School of Business at the University of California-Berkeley. He is also the dean of the School of Public Health at Berkeley. Dr. Shortell also holds appointments in the Department of Sociology at UC-Berkeley and at the Institute for Health Policy Research, UC-San Francisco.
A leading health care scholar, Dr. Shortell, has received many awards, including the distinguished Baxter-Allegiance Prize for his contributions to health services research; the Gold Medal Award from the American College of HealthCare Executives; and the Honorary Lifetime Membership Award from the American Hospital Association. He is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. He serves on many boards and advisory groups.
This lectureship brings prominent academic and business leaders to Mayo Clinic to discuss management issues of interest to administrators and other Mayo Clinic leaders. The lecture was established to honor John Herrell, Mayo Clinic's chief administrative officer from 1993-2001, and his grandfather, Harry J. Harwick, Mayo Clinic's first administrative officer.
