Mayo Clinic Announces December Harmony for Mayo Concerts

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Four Harmony for Mayo concerts will be held in December on Mondays from 12:10 to 1 p.m. in various locations throughout Mayo Clinic's campus. All Harmony for Mayo concerts are free and open to the public.

Dec. 6: Boys of the Lough will perform Celtic music in the Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W.

The international Celtic band has been touring since 1967 and has gained widespread respect as a leader in traditional Irish and Scottish music. The Boys of the Lough have completed more than 50 musical tours of the United States. The group includes Dave Richardson who plays the concertina, mandolin, accordion and cittern; Brendan Begley, melodeon and accordion; Cathal McConnell, flute and whistles; Kevin Henderson, fiddle; and Malcolm Stitt, guitar and bouzouki.

Dec. 13: Choral Arts Ensemble will perform choral music in Hage Atrium, subway level, Siebens Medical Education Building, 100 Second Ave. S.W.

Dedicated to commissioning and performing new works and presenting an excellent choral repertoire, Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester performs five programs each season in the Rochester area with music that encompasses all periods and styles. Michael Culloton directs the 40-voice auditioned choir. Since its inception, Choral Arts Ensemble has commissioned and presented the world premieres of more than 14 musical works.

Dec. 20: Saint Paul Conservatory youth pianists will perform classical piano in Phillips Hall, Siebens Medical Education Building, first floor, 100 Second Ave. S.W.

The Saint Paul Conservatory of Music is a no-profit music school that provides individual music lessons, classes and workshops for all ages. Currently there are more than 400 students ranging in age from 6 months to 75. The Conservatory of Music strives to enables students to enrich their lives with the beauty of music, within a nurturing and supportive learning community.

Dec. 27: Skylark will perform popular American music in Nathan Landow Atrium, subway level, Gonda Building, 100 Third Ave. S.W.

The group's repertoire includes many well-loved songs from the 20th century including pieces by Irving Berlin and George and Ira Gershwin. Skylark also performs contemporary pieces composed by artists such as The Beatles and Carole King. The group includes vocalist Annie Lawler accompanied by Robert S. P. Gardner on bass and Ralph Schornack on piano.

Harmony for Mayo, a music series for Mayo patients, visitors, staff and the public, is sponsored by Mayo Center for Humanities in Medicine. The series is presented in cooperation with Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester. Harmony for Mayo concerts are broadcast live on Mayo Clinic's patient/visitor channel 10. The musical series is made possible by a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Tomas Furth of Caracas, Venezuela, and New York City.
