Distinguished Educator Award Recipients

Wednesday, November 17, 2004

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Roy S. Rogers, III, M.D., and Jasper R. Daube, M.D., will receive the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine's prestigious Distinguished Educator Award. This award recognizes Mayo faculty who have, over time, demonstrated excellence, leadership and an exceptional level of commitment to their educational activities.

Dr. Rogers, who has served as dean of Mayo School of Health Sciences and associate dean of Mayo Medical School, has made major contributions to curriculum development for Mayo medical students, residents, and allied health students. During his 31 years of teaching dermatology and oral medicine, he has given more than 1,750 lectures in addition to providing innovative teaching techniques for courses, lecture series and curricula. He developed one of the first courses to integrate patients in basic science teaching and is considered one of the top educators in American dermatology. Dr. Rogers has also been recognized by a Presidential citation.

Dr. Daube has served as the chair of the Department of Neurology, and currently serves as medical director of the Department of Managed Care, Mayo Group Practices. He has been an active teacher and revered mentor to Mayo Medical students for the past 20 years. In addition to dedicating himself to the courses and programs in the Department of Neurology, Dr. Daube serves as chair of the Neurology Residency Review Committee, which is responsible for the accreditation of all Neurology residency training programs in the United States. Dr. Daube has also written definitive texts published by the International Federation of Societies of Clinical Neurophysiology.

Mayo Distinguished Educator Award recipients are nominated by their peers and have been consistently recognized by students as outstanding educators. Nominees are reviewed by a selection committee of the Rochester Education Committee and approved by the Mayo Clinic Board of Governors. The Distinguished Educator Award dinner will be held on Nov. 22, 2004 at the Foundation House.
