Mayo Clinic Announces November Harmony for Mayo Concerts

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Five Harmony for Mayo concerts will be held in November on Mondays from 12:10 to 1 p.m. in various locations throughout Mayo Clinic's campus. All Harmony for Mayo concerts are free and open to the public.

Nov. 1: Acoustic guitarist Dean Magraw will perform in the Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W. Magraw's albums include his recent solo recording "Heavy Meadow." His former recording, "Broken Silence," won an Indie Award for Best Acoustic Instrumental Album in 1994 and his album, "Seventh One," was also nominated. He studied classical guitar at both the University of Minnesota and Boston's Berklee College of Music. Magraw has performed and released albums with other artists including Peter Ostroushko and Greg Brown.

Nov. 8: Monroe Crossing will perform bluegrass music in the Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W. Monroe Crossing's latest CD, "On The Road," features live performances of some of the group's most requested songs. The bluegrass quintet includes Lisa Fuglie on mandolin and fiddle, Art Blackburn on acoustic guitar, Matt Thompson on twin fiddle, Jeff Whitson on banjo and Mark Anderson on bass.

Nov. 15: Ruth MacKenzie will perform in Nathan Landow Atrium, subway level, Gonda Building, 100 Third Ave. S.W. MacKenzie, a folk and blues singer, has performed throughout the United States and Europe. She has received numerous awards including this year's 2004 McKnight Fellowship for Composition, fellowships from the Minnesota State Arts Board in 2004 and 1995, and a McKnight Fellowship in 1998 for Music Performance.

Nov. 22: Performer to be announced. The event will be held in Nathan Landow Atrium, subway level, Gonda Building, 100 Third Ave. S.W.

Nov. 29: Honors Choirs Lyric Singers will perform in Hage Atrium, subway level, Siebens Medical Education Building, 100 Second Ave. S.W. The performance will include Spanish carols and seasonal favorites. As one of five ensembles that make up the Honors Choir of Southeast Minnesota, the Lyric Singers includes 62 young women, grades 9 through 12. The choir performs in regular season concerts and has performed in Minneapolis, Wales and England. Shelly Winemiller conducts the group.

Harmony for Mayo, a music series for Mayo patients, visitors, staff and the public, is sponsored by Mayo Center for Humanities in Medicine. The series is presented in cooperation with Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester. Harmony for Mayo concerts are broadcast live on Mayo Clinic's patient/visitor channel 10. The musical series is made possible by a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Tomas Furth of Caracas, Venezuela, and New York City.
