News Event: Joseph Cherner will be the guest luncheon speaker at the 11th Annual Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Conference. His talk is entitled "Winning Smoke-Free Air with Positive Language."
What: Nicotine Dependence Center staff conduct two conferences each year for health care professionals. The conference includes nicotine dependence counselor training and instructions on program development, with speakers drawn from internationally known experts in the field, the Mayo Nicotine Dependence Center research and clinical staff, and Mayo support services.
Who: Cherner left a successful career as a Wall Street executive to form SmokeFree Educational Services, Inc., the largest smoke-free advocacy group in the nation. He also formed B.R.E.A.T.H.E. — Bar and Restaurant Employees Advocating Together for a Healthy Environment — to give hospitality workers a voice in the debate over safe, healthy, smoke-free workplaces. Mr. Cherner graduated with an M.B.A. from Columbia University in New York City.
