Mayo Clinic Announces October "Harmony for Mayo" Concerts

Monday, September 29, 2003

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Three "Harmony for Mayo" concerts will be held on Mondays in October on the Mayo Clinic campus. A special evening memorial performance will be held Oct. 20. All "Harmony for Mayo" concerts are free and open to the public.

Oct. 13: Singer/songwriter and guitarist Cam Waters will perform ragtime blues at 12:10 p.m. in the Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W.

Having performed across the nation for over 15 years, Waters has made numerous radio and television appearances. As an experienced teacher, Waters enjoys giving workshops on guitar playing and songwriting. During his last few years he has also become popular as a children's music performer.

Oct. 20: A special memorial concert featuring the Choral Arts Ensemble with orchestral accompaniment will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Saint Marys Chapel, Saint Marys Hospital, 1216 Second St. S.W. This public performance in remembrance of those recently deceased will include John Rutter's poignant Requiem.

Founded in 1985 by Mayo physician Rick Kvam and currently under the interim baton of Music Director Robert Giere, Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester has established itself as one of southeastern Minnesota's most vital arts organizations. Dedicated to commissioning and performing new works, and presenting superb choral repertoire, the Ensemble performs five programs each season in the Rochester area with a musical collection that encompasses all periods and styles.

Oct. 27: Skylark will present popular American songs at 12:10 p.m. in the Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. N.W.

Annie Lawler (vocals), Robert S. P. Gardner (bass) and Ralph Schornack (piano) have been performing professionally for many years. They started collaborating on what is now Skylark over three years ago and continue to enjoy adding to their repertoire of some of the most beautiful songs of the 20th century. Skylark is devoted to a refreshing presentation of these works of art, penned by such composers as Irving Berlin, the Gershwins and Rogers and Hart. Moving forward through the 20th century, Skylark also honors the work of contemporary songwriters including the Beatles and Carole King.
