New Leadership Announced at Jacksonville, Florida, Mayo Clinic Location

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 25, 2002 – Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, has announced that George B. Bartley, M.D., has been named the new chair of the Board of Governors, effective January 1, 2003. Bartley will succeed Denis A. Cortese, M.D., current board chair, who will become president and CEO of Mayo Foundation. The Mayo Foundation includes all Mayo Clinic locations in Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Florida, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale also recently announced the appointment of Victor F. Trastek, M.D., as new chair of its Board of Governors, effective June 1, 2002.

Dr. Bartley is an ophthalmologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he has been on the staff since 1986 and is a current member of its Board of Governors. A professor of ophthalmology at Mayo Medical School, Bartley's subspecialty interest is oculoplastic and orbital surgery. He has chaired the Department of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and served as director of the department's residency program.

A director of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Bartley is also senior associate editor of The American Journal of Ophthalmology and former editor-in-chief of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
