ROCHESTER, Minn. — Mayo Clinic will celebrate a milestone of biomedical research with the opening of its Proteomics Research Center this month. A public open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Located on the third floor of the Medical Sciences Building, the 5,500-square-foot Mayo Clinic Proteomics Research Center will focus on the central role that proteins play in directing cellular behavior.
WHO: Rajiv Kumar, M.D., chair of the Mayo Proteomics Research Center, and his fellow researchers, David Muddiman, Ph.D., and Daniel McCormick, Ph.D., will be available to answer questions.
WHEN: Oct. 25, 2002
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
WHERE: Mayo Clinic
Medical Sciences Building
321 Third Ave., S.W.
NOTES: While many people may be familiar with the term "genome" because of the publicity surrounding the recently completed federal Human Genome Project, its sister science, proteomics, which focuses on the role that proteins play in directing cellular behavior, is not yet a part of the popular scientific culture. But it will be — and the Mayo Clinic Proteomics Research Center promises to be on the cutting edge of both this new science and the effort to increase public understanding of its implications.
