ROCHESTER, Minn. — On Sept. 4 and 5, Mayo Clinic will recognize the humanitarian accomplishments of the Mayo Clinic International Health Program (MIHP) with a variety of activities and events.
The Mayo Clinic International Health Program, a humanitarian outreach of the Mayo Graduate School, provides scholarships for Mayo residents and fellows allowing them the opportunities to take elective rotations in underserved locations around the world.
During the two-day celebration, Mayo Clinic will host the international humanitarian nonprofit, Doctors Without Borders, an organization that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
During their two-day visit to Rochester, Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) will display "Access to Essential Medicines Expo" on the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus. The display is housed in a 48-foot trailer, which will be located in front of the Medical Sciences Building at 321 Third Ave. S.W. in Rochester. The exhibit will be free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 4 through Thursday, Sept. 5. The exhibit is wheelchair accessible.
Using photographs, audiovisuals and personal testimonies, the exhibit highlights the need for more medical research and treatments for diseases that affect the world's poor. The five diseases featured in the exhibit include malaria, tuberculosis, sleeping sickness, kala azar, and HIV/AIDS.
