The Department of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., pioneered by the surgical efforts of Dr. Charles Mayo nearly 100 years ago, is now one of the largest neurosurgical practices in North America. Mayo Clinic neurosurgeons provide care to thousands of patients from around the world, performing more than 3,000 neurosurgical procedures each year — among the highest procedural volumes in the world.
The 10 neurosurgeons on staff collaborate closely with their colleagues throughout Mayo Clinic, particularly those in Neurology, Neuro-oncology, Neuro-radiology, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology and Endocrinology. This close collaboration allows the breadth and depth of Mayo Clinic's expertise to be applied to each patient's situation via a thorough team approach.
Mayo Clinic neurosurgeons work in partnership with their physician colleagues in other disciplines to offer expertise in a substantial range of neurologic and neurosurgical conditions. They are aided by outstanding, highly-skilled support staff and state-of-the-art technology and techniques. General areas of treatment are listed below; specific conditions are outlined in the "Diseases/Treatments" section at left.
