Nephrology and Hypertension in Minnesota

Pediatric Nephrology Specialty Clinic

Comprehensive Pediatric Nephrology services are provided for the entire spectrum of nephrologic and urinary diseases. Whenever possible, patients remain with the same physician for follow-up visits and telephone calls, etc. In the tradition of the Mayo Clinic practice model, physicians maintain close ties to colleagues in other specialties.

Diseases Treated

Pediatric nephrologists diagnose and treat children with the following disease and conditions:

  • In utero kidney anomalies
  • Congenital urologic/nephrologic disorders, including posterior urethral valves, ureteroceles, kidney duplication, renal ectopia, urinary reflux, neurogenic bladders, and obstructive conditions such as UPJ obstruction and UVJ obstruction.
  • Inherited kidney disorders, including multicystic dysplastic kidneys, autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease, medullary cystic disease (Juvenile nephronophthisis), Alport's syndrome, basement membrane nephropathy, nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, Bartter's syndrome, Gitelman's syndrome, Liddle's syndrome, renal tubular acidosis.
  • Acquired kidney disorders, including nephrotic syndrome, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), membranous nephropathy, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, acute glomerulonephritis, IgA nephropathy (Berger's disease), tubulointerstitial nephritis.
  • Kidney disease associated with conditions that are not limited to the kidney, including Henoch-Schoenlein Purpura (HSP), systemic vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosis, polyarteritis nodosa, Wegener's granulomatosis and Goodpasture's syndrome.
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Kidney transplantation
  • Hypertension
  • Kidney stone disorders
  • Urinary tract infections/urinary reflux
  • Urinary incontinence/enuresis (bedwetting)
  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Nephritis
  • Hematuria
  • Proteinuria
