Mayo Clinic Dialysis Programs

The first hemodialysis treatment was performed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 1955. In 1963, the Mayo Clinic Chronic Hemodialysis Program was started. Over the years, the Mayo Clinic Dialysis Program has continued to grow, and dialysis has been provided for over 5,000 patients. The program includes all of the chronic dialysis facilities and chronic dialysis services within the Mayo Health System. The wide range of services offered include:

  • chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
  • dialysis at Mayo Health System sites
  • home dialysis training
  • specialized care for children

The program is staffed by nephrologists, physician assistants, dialysis nurses and patient care technicians, renal dietitians, social workers and dialysis technical staff.
