Approximately 2,100 patients were treated for dilated cardiomyopathy from 1991 to 2001 in the Heart Failure Clinic at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Many of these patients had a past history of myocarditis.

Mayo Clinic physicians developed a leading textbook on myocarditis, "Myocarditis: From Bench to Bedside," Humana Press Towtowa, New Jersey, 2002. The book provides comprehensive information over the spectrum of myocarditis, from basic research to patient management, and presents a platform for understanding the disease and current treatments for congestive heart failure, arrhythimias and premature cardiovascular death.
