The MRI confirmed what Dan Vonk had already suspected: Something was seriously wrong. His leg pain was caused by a tumor. Recognizing the implications, Dan's doctor didn't hesitate to refer him to Mayo Clinic. There, Mayo physicians diagnosed Dan with a rare bone cancer called chondrosarcoma.

After treatment for his cancer — and reconstructive surgery to save his leg — Dan is back to his life, even coaching his team to the regional championship last year. "Mayo Clinic was there for me," Dan says. "And they're still with me — every time I take a step."
