Movement Disorders

Treatment in Florida

All diagnosis and treatment options for movement disorders described in these pages are available at Mayo Clinic in Florida.

Movement Disorders Program

The Movement Disorders Program at Mayo Clinic in Florida provides advanced evaluation and treatment for various movement disorders. The program is internationally recognized in the surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease and essential tremor.

  • Surgery, including thalamotomy and pallidotomy for Parkinson's disease and essential tremor and deep brain stimulation such as thalamic, pallidal and subthalamic stimulation.
  • Electronic, implantable tremor-control therapy
  • Botulinum toxin injections

Through clinic research protocols, patients have access to:

  • Multiple trials with experimental therapies
  • Medical and surgical therapeutic trials for Parkinson's disease and essential tremor
  • Studies involving progressive supranuclear palsy and cortical basal ganglionic degeneration
