Laboratory and Pathology Services

The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology at Mayo Clinic in Florida provides a comprehensive spectrum of tests necessary to diagnose and treat all medical problems. Internal and external quality-control procedures have been developed to ensure consistent testing and the integrity of results. Consultations for cases relating to laboratory medicine and pathology are available by sending the appropriate materials to the department or by calling

Consultations on difficult diagnostic cases in surgical pathology are available. These consultations will be answered promptly by telephone or letter from the consultant surgical pathologist expert in the field. Microscopic slides, paraffin blocks and occasionally wet-tissue samples, accompanied by the appropriate identifying reports and correspondence, are accepted.

Specialized services in dermatopathology are also available through the Department of Dermatology in cooperation with the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. Blocks and slides are accepted for consultation and clinical correlation of inflammatory, degenerative, benign and malignant skin diseases. Wet tissue in fixative will be processed, stained and interpreted as well.
