Training in Mayo procedures

On-the-Job Training

Medical Secretary/Transcriptionist on-the-job training includes training in Mayo Clinic procedures through a combination of classroom and in-office training/mentorship. Some examples of procedure training during the first 14 weeks include:

  • Computer and software training including:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Electronic clinical notes and letter creation
    • Dictation system
    • Electronic medical history/record
    • Electronic mail and calendaring
    • Electronic shorthand
  • Telephone operation and courtesy (triaging calls from patients, referring physicians, etc.)
  • Medical transcription formatting
  • Procedural training (work tasks pertinent to medical secretary at Mayo)
