Visualizing trauma to devise solutions
To communicate the specialty of orthopedic trauma at workshops and conferences, orthopedic surgeon William W. Cross, III, M.D., of Mayo's Rochester, Minnesota, campus, has developed a visually instructive method he refers to as "X-ray forensics." He presents this method in a slide show comprised of comparative films showing the injury and treatment approaches in the quest to devise solutions that restore optimal function.
Notes Dr. Cross: "Comparing the images helps us create understanding about where and how things went wrong in these cases. Further, and perhaps most importantly, it helps us determine what we need to do to get the nonunion to heal."
