Removing Foreign Objects from Eyes

October 15, 2007
READERS:
If you get a foreign object in your eye, don't rub the eye. Try to flush the object out with clean water or saline solution.

Seek emergency help if:

  • You experience blurred or impaired vision
  • You have pain, redness or the persistent sensation of the object after it is removed
  • The object is imbedded in the eyeball
  • Closing the eye is difficult
