The lung transplant program at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville has matured into one of the largest programs in the Southeast, performing more than 130 lung transplants since the program began in June 2001. The Jacksonville program achieved an important milestone in 2004 by performing three heart-lung combination transplants, the most in the country.
This treatment involves specialists in Pulmonary Medicine and Thoracic Surgery in conjunction with Transplantation.

In most cases, transplant recipients need to stay close to the hospital for a time following transplantation. Mayo has a limited number of long-term housing units nearby.
These units are fully furnished one-bedroom hotel suites with a kitchenette and a living area. Each unit has two double beds and a pullout sofa. There is a laundry facility and outdoor pool at the hotel complex. A free shuttle service to Mayo Clinic, grocery stores, pharmacies and shopping centers is also provided.
Details regarding costs can be obtained from the transplant social worker during evaluation.
The Mayo Clinic Transplantation Services physicians and staff work closely with referring physicians to care for transplant recipients. Our transplant nurse coordinators are in regular contact with patients, reviewing clinical status and test results. Our physicians typically manage immunosuppressive medications directly and have the patients return to Jacksonville for follow-up evaluation at four months postoperatively and then at the yearly anniversaries. We are happy to coordinate care to suit the referring physician's preferences.
You can obtain referral information or telephone consultation with a Mayo Clinic staff physician by calling (904) 296-9076.
