Treatment in Minnesota

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota takes a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment of the disorders of the motor unit, including ALS and its related disorders. The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Subspecialty Group at Mayo Clinic offers comprehensive, coordinated services in diagnosis, conventional and experimental treatment protocols, rehabilitation, nutrition and pulmonary care (care for the lungs and respiratory, or breathing, tract.) Mayo Clinic specialists collaborate to fulfill the patient's and caregivers' needs.

The ALS group is active in clinical and basic science research to improve care options for patients with ALS and ALS-related diseases. The clinic includes Mayo Clinic's ALS support group, which is open to all patients, family members and caregivers of Mayo's ALS patients. The group includes medical specialists in Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pulmonary Medicine and speech pathology. In addition, care of ALS patients at Mayo Clinic may involve physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists, social workers, and specialists in Gastroenterology (for assistance with eating and tube feeding).
