Liver Transplant

Treatment of Children

As one of the largest referral centers for liver disease in the world, Mayo Clinic provides an ideal environment to care for children. The first liver transplanted in a child at Mayo was in 1985. Since then, Mayo's experienced staff, quality facilities and team approach to health care have earned the program a premier reputation in organ transplantation.

The pediatric liver transplant program is housed in the Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital. Featuring state-of-the-art pediatric care and a family-friendly atmosphere, this facility offers an ideal setting and a full range of therapies for children with liver disease.

The pediatric liver transplantation effort is also greatly enhanced by its close affiliation with Mayo's adult liver transplant program. Since 1985, the Mayo Clinic Rochester liver transplant program has performed over 1,300 liver transplants in adults and 60 in children.
