The Mayo Clinic Liver Transplant program in Rochester has developed as a natural extension of the world-renowned and award-winning Department of Gastroenterology. As one of the largest referral centers for liver disease in the world, Mayo Clinic provides an ideal environment to care for patients.

The Liver Transplant program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester is known nationally and internationally as a center of excellence. Since the first liver transplant was performed at Mayo Clinic in 1985, more than 1,300 patients have undergone liver transplantation in Rochester. Our multidisciplinary team approach to health care, experienced staff and quality facilities have allowed us to achieve short and long-term patient survival rates far above national averages. See more information at volumes and statistics.

The establishment of the Mayo Clinic William J. von Liebig Transplant Center has also been a milestone in transplantation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The consolidation of all transplant programs (liver, kidney, pancreas, islet cell, heart, lung, bone marrow) into the Transplant Center has permitted unprecedented multidisciplinary cooperation and integrated care, further enabling us to improve the health and lives of our patients.
