Clinical Microbiology

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Mayo Clinic is an internationally renowned reference and developmental laboratory with expertise in all areas of conventional and molecular microbiology. Over 1.2 million laboratory tests are performed annually. A team of three M.D. consultants and three Ph.D. consultants direct seven subspecialty laboratories and oversee the development of cutting-edge diagnostic tests for infectious disease agents.

Approximately 12,000 square feet of space is devoted to diagnostic testing and 2,000 square feet to research and development of rapid PCR tests, including those for detection of agents of bioterrorism.
