Kidney Transplant

Treatment in Florida

The Kidney Transplantation Program at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is based on the Mayo model of collaboration among medical specialists. By sharing ideas and resources, our physician and allied-health specialists offer patients comprehensive care tailored to their medical situation and personal needs.

Mayo Clinic staff are accustomed to caring for patients with complex health problems from all parts of the world. Services offered include kidney dialysis, vascular access procedures, medical and surgical management and transplantation services to provide comprehensive and integrated care for patients who have kidney disease or diabetes.

Care at Mayo Clinic is provided in collaboration with patients' personal physicians. When the immediate transplant care is completed, Mayo Clinic staff help arrange for patients' providers to resume regular care and coordinate services with providers. If necessary, care can resume at Mayo until patients are ready to return home.

Referring Physicians

The Mayo Clinic Transplantation Services physicians and staff work closely with referring physicians in the mutual care of transplant recipients. Our transplant nurse coordinators are in regular contact with patients, reviewing clinical status and test results. Our physicians typically manage immunosuppressive medications directly and have the patients return to Jacksonville for follow-up evaluation at four months post-operatively and then at the yearly anniversaries. We are happy to coordinate the care in a manner that suits the referring physician's preferences.
