For more than 20 years, the Mayo Clinic Department of Ophthalmology has conducted research related to keratoconus and cornea transplantation. Mayo Clinic eye doctors (ophthalmologists) helped improve and refine the topography machine, the instrument used to precisely map the cornea's shape. Today, Mayo Clinic researchers continue to study long-term treatment outcomes of cornea transplant surgery as a treatment for keratoconus. Read more about cornea research at Mayo Clinic.
