Nursing Graduate Support Program
Details

The Nursing Graduate Support Program consists of a series of classes designed to introduce you to Mayo Clinic equipment and practices and help you become familiar with typical patient demographics and medical conditions.

Topics include:

  • Physical assessment techniques
  • Skin and wound care
  • Palliative care
  • Communication with providers
  • Nursing reports

Teaching methodology includes:

  • Hands-on skills stations
  • Unfolding case studies
  • Lectures and presentations
  • Group discussions
  • High-fidelity patient simulations

To further enhance your professional development, several of the educational days incorporate support group and learning community meetings, during which you're able to discuss situations and concerns and ask questions. Past program participants have said that these meeting times are highly valuable experiences.

Program timeline

In the Nursing Graduate Support Program, you'll be introduced to a range of nursing specialty areas. Though the amount of time you spend in each area will be determined on an individual basis using input from the preceptor, the unit educator, the nurse manager of each unit and you, the average time spent with a preceptor in each area is:

  • Intensive care unit — six months
  • Intermediate care unit — four months
  • Medical/surgical unit — approximately two months (varies by unit)

National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) review

Mayo Clinic will provide a live, three-day NCLEX-RN review at no cost to you as a new graduate nurse.

Nursing educational specialists provide support throughout the entire process of preparing for testing and obtaining licensure. Individual recognition is shared upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam.

Salary

The pay rate for new graduate nurses in the Nursing Graduate Support Program is competitive in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
