Mayo Clinic developed the Live Well — Be Well initiative to promote and provide health education, especially about the importance of clinical trials, in minority communities.
In 2009, Live Well — Be Well programs reached more than 5,000 community members through educational forums, community events and other outreach efforts. As a result, the participation rate for minorities involved in cancer clinical trials was 21.4 percent in 2009, compared to 7 percent involvement in 2004.
